Sponsorship
Give a child hope and a future
Sponsor a child to provide children with a happy childhood!
Upon becoming a child sponsor, you will receive the child's photo and a short
profile, as well as information on COW Foundation’s education programme.
We will also provide you with some interesting facts about the region where
your sponsored child is living in Uganda.
Once a year you will receive a progress report about your sponsored child and
at the end of the year, you will receive a report telling you about life at the
village as well as a photo of your sponsored child together with a season's
greetings card.
A child sponsorship will make a child happy.

1. Why sponsor a child?
Sponsorship through COW Foundation connects you with an individual child in
Uganda who needs your help. Your sponsorship provides an enrichment
opportunity for the child and huge benefits to him/her in education, healthcare
and support. This will lead to increase family income and stability.
Sponsorship is a wonderful way to learn about another culture.
Sponsorship is rescuing orphaned and abandoned children in Uganda;
sponsorship isn’t a handout, but an effective way to help in a very real and
direct way in order to change the future for a child.
2. How does sponsorship help a child?
You’re the only sponsor your child has. Your sponsorship contributions go
directly for that child’s education and welfare to improve the life of your
sponsored child. The children, with their families, are active participants in the
project’s planning and implementation.
3. What do you get as a sponsor?
You receive the opportunity to change a child’s life and to build a relationship
with a child in need.
You will receive background information on the child you will be sponsoring as
well as a photo of the child. Each year you will receive a photo and a report on
your child’s progress and his or her family (if any) in Kitgum-Uganda. You may
also receive an occasional letter from your child.
Sponsors of high school students will receive a photo, background information,
and a report every term. You will also (if you choose to) receive direct
communications from your child via e-mail or letter.
4. Is sponsoring a child like adopting a child?
No, definitely not.
The children who you can sponsor in COW Foundation-affiliated communities
always have families of their own. However, in the eyes of the child you sponsor,
you may still play an important part in their life. As well as helping them, and
their community implement projects, your participation through letters and
cards can inspire and encourage them. It’s amazing how messages of hope can
boost children’s self-esteem and motivate them to realize their potential.
5. Can I sponsor a child with my friends and work colleagues?
Yes.
We have many schools, youth groups and businesses that sponsor a child - or
several children, and think that sponsorship is a wonderful opportunity for
learning. If you decide to sponsor as part of a school, group or business, it is
important that you provide us with a clear point of contact for all our and your
sponsored child's communications.
6. How much does it cost?
The cost of sponsoring one universal/primary orphan scholarship including
uniform, daily meal, books and supplies is $90.00 (USD) per year. Students in
Uganda go to school nine months of the year (three terms). This represents just
$7.50 (USD) per month.
The cost of sponsoring one boarding school (high school) orphan scholarship,
which includes providing shelter, food, private school tuition, books, supplies,
and school requirements, is $600.00 (USD) per year. This represents just
$50.00 (USD) per month.
The cost of providing one orphan with shoes, two pairs of socks, two pairs of
underwear, two sets of clothing and one toy is $20.00 (USD).
7. Can I choose the child I sponsor?
You can choose to sponsor either a girl or boy from a community that COW
Foundation is already working in (Kitgum District, Northern Uganda where by
the horrific Lord's Resistance Army-LRA revenge havoc in life of the children
and its population for the last 20 years). If you have an interest in a particular
area in Uganda, we will do our best to match this.
